perpetrate, perpetuate
Perpetrate means "to commit or perform or carry out" and usually refers to a crime, misdemeanor, or hoax: "perpetrate a holdup," "perpetrate a practical joke." Perpetuate means "to preserve," "to make perpetual": "This father desires children who will perpetuate his name." "This foundation perpetuates the work that its founder began."
